Maxwell Shippen, DPT

Dr. Maxwell Shippen is a licensed physical therapist in Massachusetts, and a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). He earned his BS in Exercise Physiology, with minors in Nutrition and Psychology, and his Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and has been practicing physical therapy since 2016. He has spent more than a decade refining his manual techniques to reduce pain, improve flexibility, and get his patients back to their activities quickly.

He has successfully treated patients ages 4 to 104 for plantar fasciitis, knee pain, hip disorders, low back pain, neck pain, headaches, vertigo, and shoulder disorders.

On weekends, he supervises the inpatient rehab team at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, MA where he treats pre- and post-surgical patients, collaborates with MD diagnoses, and assists with patient placement after their hospital stay.

Max believes in looking at the whole body to more accurately diagnose the true cause of his patient's symptoms. He believes in staying up-to-date on the most current treatments available, such as dry needling, cupping, the Graston technique, and taping.

Max is proud to come from a family of teachers and educators and believes that educating his patients about their pain and treatment is a priority. His goal is for each patient to understand the diagnosis and participate in treatment decisions. Because his patients thoroughly understand their diagnoses and treatment plans, they are better able to advocate for themselves.

Outside of work, Max loves to spend time with his wife, son, and dog. He also enjoys running, playing soccer, boating, and traveling with his family.
